Description
In 2025, the Office of Sustainability began working with Longmont Museum leadership to explore ways to integrate stronger sustainability themes into the "Longmont Rising" and third floor treehouse exhibits as part of ongoing renovations. The Sustainability Office also committed additional funding to the project.
In early 2026, Museum staff, in partnership with the Office of Sustainability, decided to transform the current third-floor treehouse into a learning space that supports the St. Vrain Valley School District's existing "Buffalo Harvest" hands-on curriculum.
The Museum is assembling an advisory panel led by local Indigenous leader Steven LaPointe to help guide the project. When the space is not being used for school field trips, it will be open to the public and will feature interpretive panels highlighting the surrounding landscape and its importance to the Indigenous peoples who have lived in the area.
The Office of Sustainability is also exploring ways to repurpose elements of the existing treehouse structure. Renovations of the third floor area are expected to start in 2027.
