Description
Investing in Open Space represents a sustained and enduring commitment that involves the acquisition, preservation, stewardship, and restoration of these valuable areas. As Longmont experiences growth and densification within its planning area, the crucial aspects of preserving, restoring, and stewarding Open Spaces come to the forefront. These nearby spaces are intended for everyone, providing opportunities for people to engage with native ecosystems and wildlife, engage in recreation, enhance their mental well-being, admire historic farmland and viewsheds, and support local agriculture.
Over the past two decades, Longmont's Open Space Program has predominantly focused on procuring land. As we navigate the coming decades, where such opportunities become scarcer, the emphasis is shifting towards the ecological restoration and stewardship of our existing Open Spaces. A continued investment in these spaces translates to ongoing public benefits.
