Expanded air quality information and enhanced monitoring of air pollution and emissions will help track local conditions and can be used to improve public air quality awareness.

Description

  1. Boulder A.I.R. is under contract to perform a regional air quality monitoring study, which provides data related to the ambient air quality objectives of the Sustainability Plan. Boulder A.I.R.'s contract has been approved to continue at least through the end of 2025. Data are publicly viewable in near-real-time at https://www.bouldair.com/longmont.htm.
  2. Sustainability staff and the Air Quality Program Manager have been working with Boulder County and other air quality groups in the state to refine and align our air quality messaging, and to share information with regulators.
  3. In 2024, staff secured a $295,000 state grant to further research air quality data collected in Longmont and other Front Range communities. The funds will be available to Longmont in 2025.
  4. Longmont has taken the initiative to organize regular meetings between state air quality staff and local staff from Front Range communities. These discussions have led to an agreement for the state to use locally collected air quality data to test and improve the models it uses to understand and reduce ozone pollution. These efforts are ongoing.
