Description
There are no longer any active oil and gas facilities within City limits and the City has no legal authority to enforce leaks or repairs associated with oil and gas operations. However, the City does have an ongoing program, which monitors 28 sites for oil and gas-related environmental pollutants, and includes air, surface water and groundwater sampling.

The City of Longmont worked alongside Boulder County to oppose the drilling of
16 horizontal oil and gas wells south of the City. In 2023, the oil and gas company withdrew their request to drill the wells and began closure of the planned well pad.
