Platte River Power Authority and/or Longmont Power & Communications will provide options and incentives for electric utility customers to participate in a demand response program that manages electricity use in the home to reduce peak demand, shift the peak load, or absorb excess production.

City staff is collaborating with Platte River Power Authority; the other owner communities of Estes Park, Fort Collins, and Loveland; and a vendor to develop opportunities for electric customers to enroll their smart devices (thermostats, electric vehicle charges, battery storage) in demand response and flexible response programs that support electric grid management and resilience while also providing rewards to participating customers. Early programming may be available in late 2026.
