The City continues to work with developers to incentivize residential and commercial development along this established corridor. The need for nearby housing with greater densities helps reduce vehicle miles of travel (VMT) as people and the services they need are closer together. The City has improved the walkability and bike level of stress (LOS) of the corridor by providing underpass locations to better separate vulnerable road users from automobiles and trucks using Hover Street. Additionally, more federal funding will create a safer intersection at Hover/Ken Pratt.

Seek opportunities to expand high density housing options and implement multimodal transportation enhancements along the Hover Street Corridor, with a particular emphasis on opportunities as part of the Regional Center.

Description

The Hover Street Corridor serves as a primary gateway into Longmont from Boulder and major north-south travel corridor through Longmont. The corridor functions as one of the City’s major retail destinations and these uses are being expanded in the form of a major lifestyle retail center as part of the Village at the Peaks redevelopment. Other notable uses include the Front Range Community College, the Boulder County Fairgrounds, and Roger’s Grove Park. Although much of the overall corridor is built out, opportunities for infill development on remaining sites and targeted redevelopment or adaptive reuse of underutilized buildings and sites exist. Additionally, plans for enhanced transit for this corridor are part of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) plan for the CO 119 corridor, utilizing Hover Street for the Orange BRT Line between Boulder and North Longmont.
