Platte River Power Authority and its four owner communities continue to explore options for expanding the renewable energy portfolio, adding dispatchable battery energy storage, and improving the management of distributed energy resources (DERS) in pursuit of the City’s goal of 100% renewable electric energy by 2030 goal.
Construction is complete on a 200kW roof-mounted solar system at the City’s Waste Services Building on Martin St and is about to be complete on a roof-mounted solar system at Ascent at Hover Crossing, a Longmont Housing Authority (LHA)/partner owned low-income multi-family development. Installations will serve as demonstration community solar and low-income solar virtual net metering projects. The Martin St. system was energized in September 2025 and is providing energy offsets to selected participants. The Ascent at Hover Crossing system is expected online with credits being issued to each of the 75 apartments by end of Q1 2026.
