A greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory for the City of Longmont was completed in 2017 and established emissions for 2016. It was accompanied by a study that examined Longmont’s GHG emission reduction potential by 2030 and 2050. A comprehensive update of the inventory every three years will help determine overall emissions and progress toward reduction targets.

    2021 Greenhouse Gas Inventory

In 2022, Boulder County worked with Lotus Engineering & Sustainability to update to its countywide inventory for 2021. The City of Longmont decided to complete an inventory update one year early than the 3-year cycle to align with the Boulder County inventory.

There was a 13 percent reduction in total greenhouse gas emissions from the 2016 inventory.

    2019 Greenhouse Gas Inventory

Overall there was an eight percent reduction in total greenhouse gas emissions between 2016 and 2019. This was due both to activity data and updating the calculation methodology. The inventory identified that the greatest opportunity to reduce emissions is to continue supporting the transition to 100 percent renewable powered electric grid.

    2016 Greenhouse Gas Inventory

The baseline inventory was established for emissions for the year 2016, and an accompanying report was developed to identify key recommendations to meet the established reduction targets.
