100% Renewable Electricity Resolution: Increase renewable energy to 100% of Longmont's energy mix by 2030. This includes both Colorado state defined renewable energy and hydropower.
This is delivered energy to the Longmont community, you can learn more on the Longmont Power & Communications Renewable Energy webpage. For total renewable energy generated from Platte River visit their current energy production page.
Platte River continues to invest in renewable energy generation; however, starting in 2025 and going through 2029, the percent of renewable energy delivered to owner communities has decreased because Platte River is selling renewable energy certificates (RECs) to the market to generate revenue that reduces customer rate pressure over the short-term without compromising Platte River’s investment in renewable energy resources.
Zero Waste Resolution Target: Increase total citywide waste diversion rate to 75% by 2030 and 95% by 2050
Water Efficiency Master Plan Target: Reduce customer and City raw water demands by 10% by community buildout (estimated at 3,500 acre-feet by 2048) through water conservation efforts
Injury-producing traffic crashes per 1,000 population
Target: Decrease
Other Residential (non-single-family detached units) as a percentage of total units permitted
Target: Increase housing diversity (percentage of total housing stock classified as Other Residential)
Sustainability Plan Target: Increase tree canopy to 18% or more of the Longmont Planning Area covered by regionally appropriate tree canopy or vegetation.
Forestry Services is taking the approach of preserving the existing tree canopy by planting future climate adapted trees, treating ash trees to protect them from the invasive insect, emerald ash borer; and only planting trees in areas that are irrigated and support long-term tree health and survival. However, Forestry Services maintains trees on less than 5% of the total land area of Longmont. The majority of increases in tree canopy will come from private development that requires significant tree planting. Forestry Services supports private property tree canopy growth by hosting the annual Spirit of Arbor Day Tree Sale, and subsidizing the cost of the trees by 40-50%.
Updates to the citywide tree canopy will occur on a seven to ten year cycle, as the budget supports this data collection.
Boulder Reservoir is the nearest Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment regulatory air quality grade monitor.
Ozone days out of compliance indicate local air quality that is impacted by regional impacts. Longmont has also begun tracking local ozone data on Boulder AIR.
