The Climate Action Recommendations Report called for the 2024 update to the Water Efficiency Plan (WEP) to evaluate a more ambitious water conservation goal to address climate change impacts. The WEP found that since 1996, Longmont has cut water use by 46.5%, thanks to education, efficient pricing, and better infrastructure. The City has already exceeded its goal to reduce water demand, and the 2025 update to the Water Efficiency Plan will continue to help save water and protect resources for future generations.

Description

Key Goals identified in the updated Water Efficiency Plan

  1. Cut Water Use: Longmont aims to reduce water use by 3% by 2030, saving over 200 million gallons compared with 2022 usage by encouraging water-efficient landscaping, appliances, and irrigation.
  2. Expand Water-Saving Programs: The city offers and will evaluate expanding incentives to switch to water-efficient appliances, reduce turf lawns, and perform water audits for businesses.
  3. Work Together on Water: The city’s departments will collaborate to ensure water is used wisely across all city properties and projects.
  4. Make Water Efficiency Fair for Everyone: The plan ensures everyone has access to clean, affordable water, and that water-saving efforts benefit the entire community while addressing risks like drought and wildfire.
