Lead paragraph
Design guidelines need to be prepared to distribute for different segments of the development community to encourage sustainable and resilient design. This strategy focuses on revising and updating design and construction requirements to address sustainability and resiliency by including standards, specifications and guidelines for subjects including, but not limited to, Low Impact Development (LID), green infrastructure, complete streets, native landscaping and xeriscape and waste reduction and recycling.

Longmont's Heat Action Plan identified green roofs as a potential strategy to enhance resilience to extreme heat. Vegetation on rooftops reduce building and ambient heat, however cost and structural factors need to be evaluated.
Priority Locations: Public buildings, dense commercial or downtown areas
Benefits: Lowers building energy costs, extends roof life, reduces urban heat island
Practical Guidance: Incentivize through zoning or grants, require structural feasibility studies
Special Considerations: Higher initial investment, requires ongoing maintenance
